Who actually covers dental in Singapore

Most dental coverage in Singapore comes through your job rather than a standalone policy. Here is how the four common types compare, and what to watch for in each. The exact benefits always come from your own policy documents, so treat this as the map, not the fine print.

Corporate group dentalMost common

Employer plans typically cover routine care like scaling, fillings and X-rays, up to an annual cap. Check panel rules with HR

Personal dental ridersPlan dependent

Add-ons to health policies; some cover only basics, others extend to root canals or implants

Personal accident plansInjury only

Cover dental treatment needed after an accident, subject to your policy's terms

Hospital and Integrated Shield plansUsually no outpatient dental

Designed for hospitalisation; routine dental at a clinic is generally excluded, so check your policy before assuming coverage

What plans typically cover at our clinics

Across the programmes we see day to day, routine treatment is the core of dental insurance coverage: scaling and polishing, fillings, extractions, X-rays and consultations. Some plans go further into root canal treatment or even dental implants, while orthodontic work such as braces is generally treated as elective and excluded. Your policy's schedule of benefits is the final word, and our team can help you read it against your treatment plan.

Treatment Typical insurance position
Consultations and X-rays Commonly covered
Scaling and polishing Commonly covered
Fillings and simple extractions Commonly covered
Root canal treatment and crowns Some plans
Dental implants Some plans
Braces and Invisalign Generally excluded
Whitening and cosmetic work Generally excluded

Indicative only, based on the plans we commonly see; your policy's schedule of benefits and annual caps apply. Orthodontics and cosmetic treatment are typically classed as elective.

How to claim at NoFrills Dental

Three questions to your insurer or HR before the first visit save the most time: what is my annual cap, am I tied to a panel or free to choose any clinic, and is payment billed directly or reimbursed after I pay?

  1. Check your coverage with HR or your insurer: the annual cap, panel rules, and whether your programme bills the clinic directly or reimburses you.
  2. Book at any of our clinics (Suntec City, Marina Square, Marine Parade, Tanjong Katong) and tell us your insurer or programme when you book, bringing your member card or policy details on the day.
  3. Get the itemised quote before treatment starts, so you can match it against your schedule of benefits.
  4. Pay per your programme: direct-billing programmes are settled with the insurer where applicable, and for reimbursement plans you receive the itemised bill and receipts needed for your claim submission.

Stack insurance with CHAS and Medisave

Insurance is one layer of three. If you hold a CHAS, Merdeka Generation or Pioneer Generation card, CHAS subsidies come off eligible bills regardless of your insurance. For surgical work such as wisdom tooth surgery and implants, Medisave can pay the claimable portion. Our front desk works out the order that leaves the smallest cash balance for your case.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I have dental insurance coverage?

Check with your HR department if you have corporate benefits, or with your insurer for personal policies. Most employees in Singapore have some dental or medical coverage under their company's group plan, and HR can confirm the cap and claiming process.

Do you accept AIA dental insurance?

AIA is among the insurance programmes NoFrills Dental works with, alongside IHP, MHC, AON, Advantage Health Benefits and others. Coverage details depend on your specific AIA plan, so bring your member card or policy details and we will confirm what applies before treatment starts.

What does dental insurance usually cover?

Most plans cover routine treatment: scaling and polishing, fillings, simple extractions, X-rays and consultations. Some plans extend to root canal treatment, crowns or implants. Check your schedule of benefits for the full list and the annual cap.

Does insurance cover braces or Invisalign?

Generally no. Orthodontic treatment is considered elective by most insurers in Singapore and is excluded from standard dental benefits. If cost is the concern, ask us about instalment options when you book.

Does my hospital or Integrated Shield plan cover dental?

Usually not for outpatient dental care: those plans are designed for hospitalisation. Some cover oral surgery in hospital when it is medically necessary, such as after an accident. Check your policy wording, and remember Medisave can cover surgical dental work at our clinics.

Do you do direct billing?

It depends on the programme. Some of the schemes we work with settle directly with the insurer; others reimburse you after payment, in which case we provide the itemised bill and receipts your submission needs. Tell us your programme when you book and the front desk will confirm which applies.
