Flexi-MediSave 2026: Seniors Can Now Claim Up to $400 a Year for Crowns and Root Canals

From mid-2026, Singaporeans aged 60 and above can use Flexi-MediSave to offset up to $400 per year for root canal treatments and permanent crowns at CHAS dental clinics and public healthcare institutions. Because the new benefit stacks on top of CHAS subsidies, saving a tooth can now cost a fraction of the headline price. Here is exactly how it works, who qualifies, and what it means for your next dental bill.

  • For Singaporeans aged 60 and above
  • Covers root canal treatments and permanent crowns
  • Stacks on top of CHAS subsidies at CHAS clinics and public healthcare institutions

What changed, in 30 seconds

The Ministry of Health announced two enhancements to dental financing (MOH, 1 September 2025):

Already in effect (since 1 October 2025): higher CHAS subsidies for seven restorative procedures, including root canal treatment, permanent crowns and dentures, for Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, CHAS Blue and CHAS Orange cardholders. CHAS Orange cardholders also gained subsidies of up to $45.50 for ten basic procedures like scaling and polishing for the first time.

New from mid-2026: if you are 60 or older, you can additionally tap your MediSave (via the Flexi-MediSave scheme) for up to $400 per calendar year toward root canal treatment and permanent crowns at any CHAS dental clinic or public healthcare institution.

Who qualifies for the $400 Flexi-MediSave dental benefit

  • You are a Singaporean aged 60 or above
  • The treatment is a root canal treatment or permanent crown (routine treatments like scaling and polishing are not covered by this scheme)
  • The clinic is a CHAS dental clinic that has onboarded Flexi-MediSave, or a public healthcare institution

How much you could actually pay: a worked example

The real power of this change is stacking: the CHAS subsidy applies first, then Flexi-MediSave offsets part of the remainder.

Illustrative example: molar root canal treatment for a CHAS Blue cardholder aged 62.

Treatment fee (within MOH benchmark of $872-$1,400) $1,000.00
CHAS Blue subsidy (up to $584.50 for molar RCT) −$584.50
Flexi-MediSave (up to $400/year) −$400.00
Estimated cash outlay ~$15.50

Illustrative only: assumes the maximum subsidy applies and the full Flexi-MediSave annual limit is available. Actual fees, subsidies and MediSave usage depend on your case; we'll give you the exact breakdown before any treatment starts.

For a permanent crown (MOH benchmark: $750-$1,400), CHAS subsidies now reach up to $625 per claim for Pioneer Generation cardholders. The full table is below.

Root canal (pre-molar) $472.50 $467.50 $462.50 $308.50
Root canal (molar) $594.50 $589.50 $584.50 $389.50
Permanent crown $625.00 $620.00 $615.00 $410.00

Why this matters: saving the tooth just got cheaper than losing it

A root canal plus crown is how a badly decayed or infected tooth is saved. Before these changes, many seniors chose extraction because it was the cheaper path, then faced the larger downstream cost of a denture, bridge or implant. With enhanced CHAS subsidies plus $400/year of Flexi-MediSave, keeping your natural tooth is now often the financially sensible choice too.

Fee transparency: what clinics must now show you

Since 1 October 2025, every CHAS dental clinic must display MOH's fee benchmarks next to its price list. For the treatments covered by Flexi-MediSave:

Procedure MOH fee benchmark
Root canal (anterior) $400-$775
Root canal (pre-molar) $500-$900
Root canal (molar) $872-$1,400
Permanent crown $750-$1,400

If a quote is far outside these ranges, ask why. (From 1 September 2026, clinics must submit clinical justification for CHAS claims above the benchmarks.)

Frequently asked questions

What is Flexi-MediSave?

Flexi-MediSave is a national scheme that lets Singaporeans aged 60 and above use a capped amount of their own MediSave savings for outpatient treatment each year. From mid-2026, it extends to dental care: up to $400 per year for root canal treatments and permanent crowns at CHAS dental clinics and public healthcare institutions.

When exactly does the $400 Flexi-MediSave benefit start?

The scheme takes effect from mid-2026 at CHAS dental clinics and public healthcare institutions, as announced by MOH. Ask our front desk for the latest onboarding status at our clinics when you book.

Can I use Flexi-MediSave for scaling, polishing or fillings?

No. The $400/year dental benefit applies only to root canal treatments and permanent crowns. Routine treatments like scaling and polishing are subsidised separately under CHAS.

Can I combine CHAS and Flexi-MediSave on the same bill?

Yes, that's the design. The CHAS subsidy is applied first, and Flexi-MediSave can offset up to $400 of the remaining eligible amount per calendar year.

I'm under 60. Does any of this help me?

The Flexi-MediSave benefit is for those 60 and above, but the enhanced CHAS subsidy caps above apply to all eligible cardholders since 1 October 2025, including the new CHAS Orange dental subsidies.

Is the $400 per treatment or per year?

Per calendar year, in total. If you use the full $400 on a root canal in March, the next $400 becomes available the following year.
