The Lunch-Hour Dentist: What You Can Get Done in 60 Minutes at Suntec City

A check-up, a scale and polish, a single small filling or a re-cemented crown all fit inside a lunch hour at our Suntec City clinic, with roughly 35 minutes in the chair and about 12 minutes of covered walking either side. Here is the honest list of what fits, what does not, and how to book so you are back at your desk on time.

The sixty minute maths
The reason most lunchtime dental appointments fail is not the dentistry. It is the arithmetic. An hour sounds generous until you subtract getting there, getting back, and the five minutes at the end when you are paying and rebooking.
Where a 60 minute break actually goes
Assuming you work in the Suntec, Marina Centre or Esplanade area and walk.
Walking times are for offices in the immediate Suntec and Marina Centre area and will be longer from Raffles Place or Marina Bay. If you are coming from further out, treat this as a 75 minute plan rather than a 60 minute one.
Thirty-five minutes is a real appointment, not a token one. It is enough for most of what brings people in. It is not enough for the treatments that involve waiting for something to set, moulding something to fit, or working through several stages, and pretending otherwise just means a second visit anyway.
What fits in a lunch hour
These are the treatments that comfortably finish inside 35 minutes of chair time.

Chair times are typical ranges from our own clinical scheduling, not measured averages, and an individual appointment can run shorter or longer. Where a case is more involved we will say so before booking rather than after.
The most useful of these is the least dramatic. A routine check-up with a scale and polish is the appointment that stops most of the expensive ones from ever being needed, and it is precisely the one people postpone for years because they cannot find a morning. It fits in a lunch hour. That is the whole point of this clinic.
Small fillings also fit, provided it is one tooth and the decay has not gone deep. If a crown has come off and the tooth underneath is intact, re-cementing it is quick, and worth doing sooner rather than later because the exposed tooth drifts and then the crown no longer fits.
What does not fit, and why
We would rather tell you now than at 1:45pm.
Check-ups, scale and polish, one small filling, re-cementing a crown, temporary fillings, impressions.
Root canal treatment, crown preparation, multiple fillings, deep cleaning, denture fitting stages, whitening.
Surgical wisdom tooth removal, implant surgery, gum surgery, and anything where you should not be going straight back to work.
Root canal treatment is the one people most often hope to squeeze in, and it is the one least suited to it. It is usually 60 to 90 minutes per visit and sometimes more than one visit, because the tooth has to be cleaned properly rather than quickly. Crown preparation has the same problem: the tooth is shaped, an impression is taken and a temporary is fitted, and rushing any of those three costs you the fit.
Deep cleaning below the gum is usually done by quadrant across more than one appointment. Whitening needs the full chair time to be worth doing. And surgical wisdom tooth removal, implant surgery and gum surgery are not lunch-hour treatments in any sense: you will be numb, possibly swollen, and you should be going home rather than back to a meeting.
Invisalign and braces are an interesting middle case. The first consultation and scan needs a proper slot, but the routine progress visits afterwards are genuinely short, and they are one of the better reasons to have a dentist near your office rather than near your home.

Getting here and back
The clinic is on level 3 of Suntec City North Wing, unit #03-317, in the Sky Garden. The walk is covered the whole way, which matters more in this city than the distance does.
- From Esplanade MRT (CC3) or Promenade MRT (CC4, DT15). Take exit A from either and follow the covered link into Suntec City.
- Enter the North Wing between Tower 1 and Tower 2 and head for Lobby H.

- Driving instead. Park in the Suntec City car park and take the North Wing lifts to level 3. The clinic is step free from both the MRT link and the car park.

Booking it so it actually works
Four things make the difference between a lunch appointment that works and one that makes you late.
- Say it is a lunch slot when you book. We schedule differently for it. If what you are asking for will not fit, we would rather move you to a Thursday evening than start something we cannot finish.
- Take the first slot after midday if you can. Appointments run closest to time earliest in a session, for the same reason flights do.
- Do the paperwork before you arrive. Bring your NRIC and any subsidy card. If it is your first visit, our notes on what happens at a first appointment and on what to expect cover what we will ask.
- Book the follow-up before you leave. Thirty seconds at the counter saves a phone call later, and ongoing care works far better when the next visit is already in the diary.
On cost, so there are no surprises at the counter: a consultation and examination is $50, a scale and polish is $80 to $120, a single tooth x-ray is $50 and a composite filling starts from $100, all before GST. The full price list is published, and you get a written fee for your own mouth before any work begins. CHAS, Merdeka and Pioneer Generation subsidies come off at the clinic, and MediSave applies only to surgical procedures, which by definition are not the ones you are fitting into a lunch hour.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really get dental treatment done in a lunch hour?
For a lot of routine work, yes. A check-up, a scale and polish, a single small filling, a re-cement of a crown that has come off or a quick look at something that is bothering you all fit comfortably inside an hour once you account for the walk. Our Suntec City clinic is a covered walk from both Esplanade and Promenade MRT, which is what makes the arithmetic work.
How early should I arrive for a lunchtime appointment?
Five minutes is enough if you are an existing patient. For a first visit, give yourself ten, because there are details to take down and we would rather not eat into your chair time doing it. If you are coming straight from a meeting that might overrun, tell us when you book and we will hold the slot sensibly.
What if the treatment turns out to need longer?
We will tell you before we start, not halfway through. The examination and the x-ray come first, then you get a written fee and a plan, and if the work needs a longer appointment we book it rather than rushing it. Nothing gets started in a lunch hour that should not be finished in one.
Do you open outside office hours?
Our Suntec City clinic is open until 9pm on Thursdays, which is the easiest way to get a longer appointment without taking leave. Monday to Wednesday and Friday we are open 10am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm, and Sunday and public holidays by appointment.
Will I be numb for the rest of the afternoon?
If you have had local anaesthetic for a filling, the numbness usually lasts one to three hours depending on the type and the tooth. It wears off gradually. It does not stop you working, but it can make speaking feel odd for a while, so if you have a presentation right after, say so and we will plan around it.
Can I use CHAS or MediSave at a lunchtime appointment?
CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation subsidies are applied at the clinic, so you pay the subsidised amount there and then, with no forms to chase afterwards. MediSave only covers surgical procedures, so it does not apply to most lunch-hour work.
